Adventures While Vacationing

So today has totally been a serious adventure, our car decided to quit running. Been sitting at the car service center all day, 40 miles away from our hotel. Finally got a rental! Now resting comfortably…

So today is a firm reminder for me that everyday is an adventure! Today could’ve been one of those days where everything that could go wrong, did…..I could’ve sworn today would have ended badly as quick as it went downhill. Luckily we were great planners, and had the ability to have our car repaired. Should be done Thursday, have the rental for up to a week.

So as bad as I wanted to let this ruin my week. I kept a positive outlook, all things considered this was very difficult, and everything ended well. Yesterday, after our arrival, we enjoyed  a very warm pool at the hotel. And I believe tomorrow is going to be great! We are taking an adventure to a national forest where there’s a natural spring, the water there is a constant 72 degrees. Snorkeling and swimming is on the agenda.

We totally had a long ride down, luckily the kids slept most of the way. The adults were up for like 40 hours straight. That has seriously affected my mental health these past few days. Sleep will not be a problem for me tonight, no sleeping medicine will be required. I am so happy! Even though today did not go as planned, we made the best of it. To be honest, I am just happy to be running around outside in shorts, and being able to go swimming outside is fun too.

There were times where the fear of the unknown caused me o want to cancel this vacation, now I am not saying I didn’t want to come. I totally did! But I just hate the feeling and fear of the unkown. Just look what happened today, the unexpected is likely not to occur but obviously can. If you put all of your eggs in one basket, like I have previously done, this could’ve been disastrous!

Has anyone had anything similar happen while on vacation?

I’d love to hear your story.

The natural spring sounds very tempting. I would love to visit a natural spring but you only hav puddles in the UK. I know fear on the unknown can be a stress especially with a family but sometime it can turn out to be a great opportunity.

  2. Every day is truly an adventure, that is for sure!!! I remember a time when I was VERY young. My family and I were traveling in France and one morning we woke up – NO CAR! Gypsies stole our car! And all our belongings we left in the car, which wasn’t much thankfully, except for my glass horses that I loved so very much. I remember being so so so so so sad, but I have no clue what we did when this happened, ha!

    1. Thanks, it has taken me a long time to train my brain to roll with the punches, sometimes it doesn’t work out that way. But progress is progress, which I am grateful for! Thanks for reading and commenting!

    1. Thanks! Oh my, the drive down was crazy! But we made the best of it. Usually I love driving/traveling! But I think sheer exhaustion played a role in our stressful drive down. Thanks for reading and commenting!

The kids are usually the challenge when you’re our vacationing but it’s also very much worth it when you start seeing how happy you’ve made them. I think it’s important to always stay positive!

    1. Yes, oh my…They both did really well all things considered. Neither rofl them has ever been on that long of a drive. The toddler handled it like a champion! But you are so right, seeing their faces light up with fun & excitement makes it all worth it. Thanks for reading and commenting!

    1. Thank you! It was most definitely crazy in that moment. But we dealt and made the besy of it, just wished we didn’t have a wasted day. But it is what it is….Thanks for reading and commenting!

  4. I’m not a planner for vacations. I like to wing it most of the time and that always makes it more adventurous for me. The GF on the other hand likes to plan everything down to the tiniest detail and if we don’t stick to that schedule she gets frustrated. I told her that on our next trip… no plans, no expectations so if we end up with a rain day we won’t be disappointed. I do like longer stays so we don’t have to cramp everything into a weekend. Train trip through Germany and France is on the agenda this summer with the Europass so we can get on and off when we please. I’m expecting an adventure, she’s probably anticipating an epic disaster. We shall see.

    1. I’m not much of a planner either, except hotel accommodations! That has to be reserved before I leave the comforts of home….we are a roll with the punches kinda bunch, so it is usually not happening the way I want. So I’ve just quit making plans. We decide what we are going to do base don’t everyone’s mood (sometimes we are a moody bunch, lol), weather, and interests. Thanks for reading and commenting!

    1. Thanks, it usually doesn’t go down like that! Hahaha, but it is something I am working towards changing. Baby steps, that’s my biggest pet peeve about myself….I am doing a self overhaul! I’m determined to get in a better mindset, instead of always thinking the worst. I am learning to find the silver lining! Thanks for reading and commenting!

  5. When i was a bit younger I always have that fear of the unknown. And I missed lots of great adventures and opportunities. Then I realized, I shouldn’t be like that. Now I just fo whatever fun that i can handle – and just being responsible to whatever results it will give me.

    1. I agree, it’s taken me a long time to realize that I needed to change my mindset. We are kinda the same way, we follow the open road. We just weren’t expecting it, so it was a huge surprise. We have recovered and are having a great time! Thanks for reading and commenting!

    1. I’m sorry, you should definitely find the time! It is so wonderful to just let all your stresses and worries go for a Lil while. It is totally worth every ounce of stress up to this point. Thanks for reading and commenting!

  6. Keeping a positive attitude helps because travel, as you’ve written above, is unpredictable. Have I had similar situations, sure, too many to list. They make your travel stories more interesting and if you spin it right, it can get worse and worse each time you tell the story for more fun. lol

    1. So true, lol…We have had a great time since the “incident”! It has definitely been a vacation for the books. Even though we have struggles, I am not one to quit. So when we decided to leave, I told myself that it was now or never. I’m glad I took a leap and it has gone like it has. It will definitely be a great story to tell later, Thanks for reading and commenting!

  7. We had to get new tires on vacation one time, so we were limited to what was in walking distance. We found an amazing cave trail that we wouldn’t have found if we didn’t take the time to walk around and look what was there.

    1. Oh wow, that’s so cool! I love caves, I used to scuba dive in them! We found a very cool park while we were gone. I’m a terrible navigator, even with gps. Lol, we got lost and found this beautiful lil park! Thanks for reading and commenting!
